A new beginning!

At the outset, I would like to thank all the members of the Indian Psychiatric Society, North-Zone, for reposing their trust in me for being the honorary editor of the Journal of Mental Health and Human Behaviour. I hope that I will be able to meet the expectations of the membership.
Journal of any association is a reflection of its prestige. Journal provides a platform for the memberships and others who are also not part of the association to publish their articles in the journal. Keeping this in mind, maintaining a high standard of ethics for the journal is of paramount importance.
As I make a beginning, I have the legacy of my immediate predecessor, Prof Rajesh Sagar who in his four consecutive terms has taken the journal to a newer height. Prior to him, other members who have served as the honorary editor have also contributed to the journal in what it is today. Over the last few years, the quality of our journal is reflected by our rejection rates, which are as high as 75%–82% in the recent years. Over the years, many new people have joined the journal in various capacities, such as associate editor, assistant editor, and reviewers. All this has added to the growth and prestige of the journal.
By this time, we have formed our new editorial board, and I thank all the persons who have agreed to be part of the editorial and help me in this endeavor. The quality, regularity, and the content of the journal is a team work, rather than the one-man show. Keeping this in mind, I can say that all the members chosen for the editorial board will strive to improve the quality of our journal further.
We have certain challenges ahead. Despite being into the 23rd year of the journal, our journal is still not listed in the Medline. Further, all the old issues are at present not available on the journal website of Medknow. The journal is also facing financial issues, for its sustainability. When one looks at these problems, one thing which is emerging is that, in coming times, we have to take tough decisions, like selecting good-quality articles, so as to maintain and possibly improve the quality of the journal. Further, we need to look at the possibilities and resources which can help in getting all the issues of the journal on the website.
I am thankful to the whole executive committee of the Indian Psychiatric Society, North Zone, for standing with me and guiding me in this endeavor.
I hope that with my team, we would be able to fulfill everyone's expectations and aspirations!
